Commissioned Oil Paintings

Thomas Lofton accepts a limited number of commissioned works each year. All commissions are original oil paintings on stretched canvas only. He does not accept requests for prints, other media, or works on paper.

  • Complete the form with the subject, desired canvas size and orientation (or a range), reference photos, and a detailed explanation of what you want. The more specific you are, the better he can determine whether the project is a fit.

  • Thomas reviews each inquiry for subject matter, size, timeline, and overall fit with his current work. You will receive a response either way. Not every request is accepted.

  • If accepted, you will receive a price, estimated timeline, and a simple written agreement covering the details. Pricing is based on size, complexity, and current schedule.

  • Full payment is required up front before work begins. This reserves your place and covers materials and studio time. You will receive updates at key stages. When finished, the painting is varnished, dried, and prepared for shipping (shipping costs are additional).

  • Clear description of the subject, mood, and any specific elements to include or avoid

  • Reference photos (location photos, historical images, sketches, or examples of color and style)

  • Any hard deadlines or special considerations

  • Commissions are for original oil paintings on stretched canvas only.

  • Thomas reserves the right to decline any request that does not fit his style, schedule, or available materials.

  • Once accepted and paid, the commission proceeds according to the agreed details. Minor adjustments can be discussed; major changes may require a revised quote.

  • The finished painting is yours. Thomas retains the right to photograph the work for his records, website, and portfolio unless you request otherwise in writing.

  • Typical timelines vary with size and complexity and will be stated in the agreement. Rush requests are rarely possible.
